SONORE
Music Society

Welcome!

SMS is a registered non-profit organization, born from a shared passion for music, education, & community. Our inaugural project, “Boundless Harmonies”, aims to foster connections between students and the seniors. This initiative encouraged intergenerational relationships and promoted volunteerism among young people. SMS is also the official North American Representative for the “Mark Rothko Competition”, which originated in Latvia. Other projects include educational masterclasses, concerts, and festivals — all designed to enrich the community through the transformative power of music. Since 2023, the society has been led by pianist and educator Dr. Anna Vavilova.

“We acknowledge that we live and work on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. We are grateful to the Indigenous peoples who have stewarded this land for generations, and we commit to ongoing learning and respect for these communities.”

Thank you for playing for our seniors! They cannot wait for your visits and we are looking forward to more concerts!

The Mark Rothko Competition gave my daughter a wonderful opportunity to perform at UBC’s Music Theatre — it was an unforgettable experience!
